A Personal Quest

Interdisciplinary - Biology 1400 Environmental Science

Environmental Science has been a course that has truly opened my eyes in a lot of ways.  Being environmentally conscious has not always been a priority of mine.  I guess it was just another thing that I didn't want to have to worry about.  Call it greed, or even lazy, I was set in my ways and I didn't want to have to change my lifestyle because someone cried wolf.  Over the years as I have gotten older and have become more aware to the idea that our resources are indeed limited, my perspective has begun to soften.  This class was one that was required for my major, Construction Management, however, I now believe should be a requirement for everyone.  I can't say that I've come out of this class feeling real great about myself, but I can say that I understand better how our planet works and how better to protect it.  We not only learned in the class room, but we also were able to see first hand through field trips how wasteful we are and what we are doing to treat it.  Unless we learn to be responsible and to act in moderation our problems will only increase.

The assignment that we were asked to complete for our e-portfolio was to watch a short video based on the Dr. Suess story called "The Lorax" and reflect on its significance.  The Lorax is a great example of what may become if we don't pay attention and understand the consequences of our actions.
